
Shillong, Jan 11: The West Garo Hills district administration is coordinating with the forest department to check illegal stone quarries in Rajabala and other parts of the district following the death of ACHIK activist Dilseng Sangma on January 9.
Dilseng and other members of ACHIK were attacked by miscreants after they inspected the illegal stone quarries.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal said a magisterial probe will look into the illegal stone quarry in Rajabala where the assault incident took place.
‘We will also check along with the forest department regarding the status of stone quarries in the district, he said.
Police have arrested three accused in connection with the crime.
The BJP. VPP and FKJGP on Sunday condemned the incident and wanted the government to act swiftly to take action against the perpetrators of the crime.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress President Timjim Momin also asked the government to ensure justice to the victim.
