
Shillong, Jan 27: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has fixed the Budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from February 26 to 27.
Speaking to reporters after the BAC meeting on Tuesday, Assembly Speaker Thomas Sangma said the government business will be for seven days, and the remaining three days will be for the private members.
The budget will be presented on February 20.
The Speaker added that sitting hours may be extended, if required, to enable members to effectively participate in the proceedings of the House. He also informed that on the day the Supplementary Demand for Grants is taken up, the sitting of the House will be extended till 3:00 PM.
The meeting was chaired by the Speaker , and was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Prestone Tynsong.
The Leader of the Opposition, Mukul Sangma, and Member Paul Lyngdoh participated in the meeting through online mode.
Also present at the meeting were Cyril V. Darlong Diengdoh, Commissioner & Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs Department, Andrew Simons, Commissioner & Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, and Malthus S. Sangma, Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
New Assembly building
The new Assembly building construction at Mawdiangdiang is nearing completion, with external works finished and interior works underway, the Speaker said.
“External works have been completed. As you can see from outside, it is completed, but interior works are still going on,” Sangma said.
The internal works include installation of audio-visual systems, CCTVs, and wiring.
To a question on the project’s deadline, Sangma said, “The June deadline still stands as of now. We are trying our best.”
The Speaker said the high-powered committee will be meeting very soon on-site
