Cabinet Minister and government spokesperson Marcuise Marak has taken up the matter with the West Garo Hills district administration.

At present, no other such posters have been noticed or reported from any other parts of the district. Preliminary assessment indicates that this may be a deliberate attempt by person (s) or group with vested interests to create anxiety and disturb the law and order situation in the district, West Garo Hills SP Abraham Sangma said.

“The poster has been removed and will be sent for forensic analysis. A case has been registered at Araimile police station, and investigation has started. All-out efforts are being made to identify and trace the persons responsible for pasting the poster and those who are circulating it to create panic and communal disharmony. Accordingly, necessary actions will be taken against them as per relevant section (s) of law”, the SP said.

He urged the people not to panic and not to be misled by such messages on social media or other platforms that are being circulated to create communal disharmony.

“Any suspicious activity or information may be shared with the nearest police station, Out Post, Beat House, or the Police Control Room (PCR), Tura, immediately through the following mobile numbers: +91 8837423053, +91 7005530510, +91 9089199064. The police assure all concerned citizens and the general public that the law and order situation in West Garo Hills district is under control, and necessary steps are being taken to maintain peace and harmony in and around the district.”

Response of BJP.

The state BJP has condemned the recent poster threatening the Garo community in West Garo Hills, allegedly signed by ISIS-K, and urged the state government to take swift action against those responsible.

“BJP urges the state government to take swift, exemplary action and asks every citizen of the state to remain vigilant and thwart the evil designs of criminals from across the border,” BJP general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna said on Wednesday.

The party has also appealed to the central government to take note of the incident and assured that the nation’s security forces are capable of handling such threat.
