Blast took place in third mine affecting two others

Khliehriat, Feb 6:The dynamite blast took place in the third mine, affecting the workers in the first and the second mines at Mynsyngat-Thangsko, East Jaintia Hills, according to the initial assessment.

The high court-appointed committee, retired Justice BP Katakey and Technical Adviser(Environment) Naba Bhattacharjee, visited the blast site on Friday, accompanied by officials.

Katakey said on the phone that the workers in the third mine came out after putting the dynamite, but the blast affected the workers in the adjacent second and third mines.

The rescuers cleared the first mine on Friday, and the rescue and recovery work slowed down at the second mine due to a landslide.

According to Katakey, since methane emission due to dynamite blast is highly inflammable, there are chances of casualties or injuries to more miners.

The team directed the rescue team to speed up the operations.
