Shillong, Feb 6: Some 340 boys appeared for selection trials for the first induction into the new Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) Academy in Shillong on Friday.
The trials were open to boys born between 2013 and 2016. They were put through their paces, overseen by senior members of the MFA and experienced youth coaches.
Seventy boys were then shortlisted for the next stage of selection.
The MFA announced last month plans to begin its own Shillong-based academy as part of its continued commitment to strengthening grassroots football development in the state.
The MFA Academy will focus on “structured training, long-term player development and creating a strong pathway for young footballers in Meghalaya to progress through the state and national football ecosystem”, the association said in a statement at the time.
