Flak for officers in court, award for CM in church event

Shillong, Feb 9: The officers faced flak from the court for the death of miners, while Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was awarded by a catholic body for upholding human dignity and justice among other virtues, on Monday.

In a day of ironic development, the East Jaintia Hills SP Vikash Kumar and DC  Manish Kumar became the scapegoats for the collective failure of the government in arresting illegal coal mining.

They were appointed only recently.

On the same day, Conrad received the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) national award in Bengaluru for exceptional service to the Church, the society and the nation.

Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh congratulated the chief minister Conrad on being conferred the prestigious honour by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.

However, the church is yet to condemn illegal coal mining activities, destruction to humans and the environment.

The chief minister is yet to visit the Thangsko area.
