Nongsder, Feb 22: The funeral service of Shillong MP Ricky Syngkon was held at the ICAR residential complex ground, Nongsder, Ri Bhoi, on Saturday afternoon.
People gathered in large numbers here to pay tribute to the departed leader.
Prominent church and political figures attended the service.
VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit, Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Prof. S Umdor from NEHU, late Ricky’s brother and headman of the area recalled the contribution of the late MP on the occasion.
Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma, Mizoram MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, VPP MLAs, UDP MLA from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem, NPP MLA from Mawhati Charles Marngar, Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare (NPP), MDCs, church leaders, NEHU staff, among others, were present.
The condolence messages from Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and those of other leaders were read out on the occasion.
Later, the mortal remains were taken to Sumer Presbyterian Cemetery for burial.
