Shillong, Feb 24: Two Agniveers died of suspected cases of meningococcal bacterial infection in Assam Regiment Centre, Happy Valley, on the night of February 23

“There have been two suspected cases of meningococcal bacterial infection, with a fatal outcome, over last two weeks at the Assam Regiment Centre. As a precautionary measure, chemoprophylactic dose of antibiotic ciprofloxacin as per medical protocols has been given to all contacts. Further, masking and restricted movement protocols have been put in place. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely. There is no cause for alarm or panic”.
