Mahila Congress chief condemns racism

Shillong, Feb 24: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress ( MPMC) condemned the continuing incidents of racism and discrimination faced by people from the North East within our own country, India.
‘It is deeply painful and unacceptable that citizens of the North East are still subjected to racial harassment, exclusion, and violence in different parts of the country. Such acts are not only an attack on individuals but an insult to the very spirit of unity, diversity, and constitutional equality that defines India”, MPMC chief Joplyn Shylla said in a statement.
Arunachal Pradesh women faced harassment recently in New Delhi.
The North East is an integral and proud part of this nation. Our people have contributed immensely to the country in every field from sports and education to culture and public service. Racism against our people is racism against India itself, she said.
“We demand that the Government of India take immediate and strict action against those responsible for racist behaviour. Strong legal measures must be enforced, and exemplary punishment must be given to offenders to ensure that such shameful acts are not repeated. We also call for stronger implementation of laws protecting North East citizens from discrimination and hate crimes.India belongs to all of us equally, and without discrimination”, she added.
