2 NPP councillors in Dimapur municipality join NPF

Dimapur, Feb 28 (NNN): In a major political development in Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), two councillors of the National People’s Party (NPP) have joined the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF), raising the NPF tally to 17 in the 23 wards, a statement of the NPF claimed on Saturday.

Councillors Jonathan Yepthomi of Ward No. 23 and Nikali Sumi Chishi of Ward No. 7, along with their supporters, officially joined the NPF on Saturday, giving a major boost to the party’s strength in the local government, it said.

“The move is expected to strengthen the NPF’s commitment to serving the people of Dimapur, with the councillors pledging to work together for the betterment of the people, focusing on development and progress in the city and the party”, the NPF also said.

Welcoming the two DMC councillors at the Central Office, MLA and NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon said that after the merger of two regional political parties, people had realised the importance of having a strong regional political party to protect the Naga people and their identity. He also said that Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, who took over as the president of the NPF and has a tall vision for the Naga people, had inspired many people to join the NPF.

Kikon pointed out that NPF is a very disciplined party and power lies at the grassroots level has urged the two new leaders not to disappoint the mandate of the people but to deliver goods to their people.

Meanwhile, DMC chairman Hukheto Yepthomi, who was also present on the occasion, thanked the party for welcoming the two new councillors and asserted that they would carry forward the party’s principles faithfully, the NPF statement added.
