HC pursues PIL on drug abuse

Shillong, March 2: The High Court of Meghalaya is pursuing the PIL on drug abuse among children.
During the hearing on Monday, the division bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh observed that pursuant to the order on December 10, 2025, Additional Advocate General stated that the Chief Secretary has constituted a Monitoring Committee as directed on December 16, 2025 and that the first meeting was held on December 19, 2025. He stated that within the next three weeks, the Monitoring Committee will suggest appropriate steps/action to be taken, so as to enable the state government to at least start the process of preventing drug addiction among children/drug addicts.
Dr. N. Mozika, DSGI has filed an affidavit on behalf of the Border Security force (BSF). The same has been received by the Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner.
At this stage, the Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioner seeks leave to implead the customs authority; the BSF and the National Narcotic Control Bureau as party-respondent Nos. 4, 5 and 6.
The court will hear the matter on April 7.
