
Shillong, March 7: Rajabala MLA Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi and others have urged the Meghalaya Governor to declare the notification issued on February 17 regarding ST status of the GHADC candidates as unconstitutional and ultra vires to the constitution of India.
The notification ssued by the Executive Committee of the GHADC wanted the contesting candidates to produce ST certificates while filing their nominations.
Im a memorandum submitted to the governor, Kazi urged him to issue appropriate directions / orders to the Department of District Council Affairs, to ensure strict compliance with the Constitution of India and the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951 (Amended) in the upcoming GHADC polls.
He urged the governor tp direct the Returning Officers and all other election authority /authorities not to act upon the notification dated 17th of February’ 2026 issued by the Executive Committee GHADC, Tura for production of Scheduled Tribe Certificates for filing of Election nominations.
