Cabinet to decide on GHADC

Shillong, March 11: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has declined to move out of his  house in Tura despite the threat to him and the family.

An emergency cabinet meeting has been convened on Thursday to discuss the future of GHADC.

In a video message on Wednesday, the chief minister revealed that as per security protocol, be was advised to shift from his residence in Tura but he chose  remain at home.

He appealed to the citizens to maintain peace and refrain from violence.

In the message, the chief minister revealed that he had earlier received information that different groups and several individuals were heading towards his residence with the intention of burning his house and attacking his family.

Conrad said, based on this information and in accordance with security protocol, he was advised to relocate to another place for safety. However, he stated that he chose not to leave his residence and declined the suggestion to move, saying he was not afraid.

The chief mnister said that his life ultimately rests in the hands of the Lord. He also reaffirmed his identity as an A·chik (Garo) and stated that the blood and legacy of his father, late P. A. Sangma, continue to inspire him with courage and determination. He added that he deeply loves his community and is committed to working for the welfare and progress of the people with utmost integrity and honesty.

Expressing concern over the ongoing unrest, the chief minister noted that incidents of vandalism and destruction have been reported, including damage to government properties and religious places. He also highlighted reports of people’s homes being intruded upon and families being disturbed. Such actions, he said, do not reflect the values and principles of the community and society.

Emphasizing the need for calm and restraint, the chief minister urged citizens to refrain from acts of violence and destruction. He stressed that the present situation can only be resolved through dialogue and constructive engagement.

Calling upon the public to respect democratic systems and institutions, he urged everyone to place the interests of the community and the state above all else and work collectively towards restoring peace and harmony.

Appeal by Civil Hospital 

The Civil Hospital Tura has appealed to not obstruct the movement of their staff while they are traveling for duties and night shifts. As per a post, earlier on Thursday, an ambulance driver who was transiting a pregnant woman to maternity hospital was stopped on their way to hospital and was assaulted while he was doing his duty.
