Over 28 held for violence in Garo Hills

Shillong. March 16: Over 28 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the recent violent incidents in Garo Hills region.

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong  told reporters that not less than 28 arrests have been made so far.

“Now again if you further ask me about this, I say let the police go ahead with the detailed investigation. I cannot say right now. May be some more to be arrested,” he said.

“We leave it to the police to see that such incidents…should not reoccur in the future.”

He added that the incidents extend beyond West Garo Hills.

“Not necessarily only in West Garo Hills. It should be in the entire region. May be from here also but let investigation take place. We will go up to the end point of the issue.”

The deputy chief minister said the government is examining FIRs naming former legislator Esmatur Mominin.

He also declined to comment on the arrest of former MDC Sofiur Rahman.

“Let the investigation go oo,  he said.

Tynsong saud curfew orders will remain in place after dark, and the  authorities will  assess when to lift restrictions.

“Well right now curfew will continue in the evening and at the same time we will see how fast we will be able to lift the curfew and also to lift the ban on internet,” Tynsong added.
