Senior lawyer’s grandson found dead

Shillong, April 1: The grandson of a senior lawyer was found dead in a city locality.

The 16-year- old grandson of Advocate VK Jindal came to Shillong on Monday (March 30) after completing his Class X  examinations from Assam Valley School, Tezpur.

Jindal said his grandson went out to meet his friends on March 31.

The family received a call in the evening regarding the recovery of the body at a place under Rynjah police station.

Police suspect it to be a case of  unnatural death.

Briefing reporters about the incident, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said on Wednesday that information was received from Bethany hospital that the student was brought dead in a 108 ambulance from Umpling bridge.

He had left his house in Motinagar in the afternoon to be with his friends in Laitumkhrah and was told by his father, also an Advocate to be back by 5.30 pm.

“He was mysteriously found in a house near Umpling bridge in the evening with a bleeding nose.There were two persons with the student in the house. The parents of the boy were contacted by the persons  and then the boy was shifted in the 108 ambulance. Police called the Forensic Crime Scene Unit  and others at the site to gather any evidence available. Inquest has been conducted and no fatal injury is apparent. Post mortem has been conducted at NEIGRIHMS to ascertain the cause of death”, the SP said.

According to the police official, the boy  had left home around 1:30 pm and his parents received a call from his phone at 6 pm, saying he was at Umpling bridge.”

“The boy was found unconscious and bleeding from the nose. There’s no fatal injury on the body, except for nose bleeding  and discolouration of the upper lips. Preliminary findings suggest no assault on the boy. Apparently, it doesn’t look like any form of assault as of now,” Syiem said. 

When asked, the SP said the boy was with his two acquaintances.

Police will wait for the toxicology report to find out whether the minor died due to  overdose of drugs.
