Night curfew withdrawn in West Garo Hills

Shillong, April 2: The night vurfew was withdrawn in West Garo Hills, following the improvement of law and order situation.

The curfew was imposed across the district on March 19 following unrest over participation of non-tribal candidates in GHADC polls.

The April 1 order issued by the District Magistrate  Vibhor Aggarwal said, “Under review of the current situation, it is observed that normalcy has substantially been restored and the law and order situation is presently under control”.

The order is to ease public movement, normal functioning of shops, and commercial establishments, subject to compliance with laws. The citizens were asked to maintain peace and communal harmony.

“Any act or omission likely to disturb public tranquility shall invite strict legal action. Law enforcement agencies remain on alert to prevent breaches of peace”, the order said.
