Shillong, April 15: UDP legislator from Mawsynram Olan Sing Suin wanted a pitcher plant garden at Lawbah.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Suin said the unique project could boost tourism in the area.
“I have discussed the unique proposal of developing Lawbah with the Chief Minister”, he said.
Stressing the natural presence of the plant along the stretch, he said the site holds strong tourism potential.
“If you happen to pass through the road from Mawlaishong to Lawbah, you will see on both sides of the road there are so many wild pitcher plants growing in wild forms. If this can be developed into a pitcher plant garden, I think it will be a unique area in terms of tourism development,” Suin said.
He warned that the species could become endangered if not protected.
“Of course, they will be endangered unless we take care of them because of the habitation and wild fire. I think this pitcher plant will be unique in Meghalaya if we can develop it,” he said.
Speaking on the rain museum, the local MLA said it is expected to be completed within a year,
Speaking about tourism initiatives in his constituency, Suin said, “The tourism initiatives in the constituency, including the rain museum, are under construction now and we are going to see the light of the day after one year.”
Regarding the design of the facility, he said visitors will experience rainfall inside the structure.
