Regarding Baseless Political Speculation

It is both regrettable and wearying to witness certain sections of the media, alongside the ruling dispensation, once again recycling the same baseless rumours. The recent “speculation” concerning Dr Mukul Sangma’s entry into the NPP is nothing more than a desperate attempt to manufacture confusion where none exists.

“To address this “rubbish” news with the finality it deserves, we wish to place the following facts on record:

1. A consistent and clear position

Dr Mukul Sangma has already dismissed these claims as recently as December 2025, correctly identifying them as “wishful thinking” by those who fear our growing strength at the grassroots. To re-circulate the same narrative today is a clear sign of political bankruptcy and a lack of genuine issues to discuss.

2. Fabricated narratives of berths and posts

The whispers regarding “constitutional posts” or “cabinet berths” are entirely fictional. Dr Mukul Sangma has spent his career fighting for the people of Meghalaya on a foundation of principles, not through the pursuit of backroom deals or personal gain.

3. Focus on the welfare of the people

While the ruling party spends its energy on “keeping doors open” and manufacturing imaginary realignments, Dr Mukul Sangma remains focused on the crises that actually affect our citizens. His priority continues to be the welfare of the people and the resolution of the deep-seated issues currently facing the state.

4. A steadfast commitment

It is understandable why other parties would covet a leader of Dr Mukul Sangma’s calibre and vision. However, his commitment remains steadfast toward strengthening our own organisation and preparing for the upcoming battles.

The “door” the NPP claims to keep open is one that Dr Mukul Sangma has no intention of walking through. We urge the media to look past these “whispers” and focus instead on the governance and accountability that the people of Meghalaya deserve.

Dr Mukul Sangma is occupied with the service of the state. We have no further time for these needless distractions”.
