100th next generation post office comes up in NEHU

Shillong, May 6: The ‘100th N-Gen Post Office’ at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Sub Post Office, Shillong, was inaugurated through virtual mode by Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister of Communications, in the presence of Jitendra Gupta, Director General Postal Services & Adnan Ahmed, CGM, Parcel Directorate, who also attended the event virtually.
Present at NEHU, Shillong were Joseph Lalrinsailova, Postmaster General, North East-II Region, Prof Sumarbin Umdor, Pro-Vice Chancellor of NEHU, students, professors, and officials of the Department of Posts.
According to an official statement in this regard, the N-Gen (Next Generation) Post Office has been developed as a youth-centric and culturally vibrant postal space reflecting the aspirations and creativity of the younger generation of Shillong. Students actively contributed ideas towards the design and ambience of the post office, making it a participative initiative.
Keeping in view Shillong’s identity as the ‘Rock Capital of India, the post office has been specially designed to resonate with the city’s musical culture and youthful atmosphere. The interiors incorporate a café-style setting along with musical elem ents including drums, guitars, ukuleles, flutes, and mouth organs, creating a creative and welcoming environment. The post office counter has been redone to match youth aesthetics, while local motifs and indigenous culture have also been thoughtfully integrated into the space.
The initiative reflects the Department of Posts’ efforts towards modernizing postal spaces while strengthening engagement with youth and celebrating local culture and identity, the statement added.
