Two held for carrying explosives

Shillong, May 14: Police arrested two persons from Cachar district of Assam and seized 30,000 explosive detonators from their vehicle at Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills on May 13,
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said that the arrests were made during a routine check around 2:30 am when Umkiang police patrol post intercepted a white Hyundai Eon going towards Silchar.
“On 13th May 2026, approximately 2:30 am , the naka party of Umkiang PPP intercepted a suspicious white Hyundai Eon (AS-10-A-5916) going towards Silchar at 2 Kilo, Umkiang village. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the detection and recovery of 30,000 numbers of explosive detonators. The explosive detonators were concealed inside two carton boxes and one gunny bag and were being transported illegally,” Rasgania said.
The accused have been identified as: Kamrul Ali Laskar, resident of Jamalpur, Cachar, Assam and Ibrahim Uddin Laskar, resident of Loknathpur, Cachar, Assam.
A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station and police have launched an investigation into the source and intended recipients of the explosives.
