Meet discusses mental health issues of students

Shillong, May 16: Mind Activation Through Education (MATE) project being implemented in Meghalaya schools addresses mental issues thanks to the initiative of the Mental Health Foundation.

The Foundation spoke to reporters on May 16 on the achievements, research findings and positive outcomes of the project in Meghalaya schools.

The MATE project is sponsored under the CSR initiative of Oil India Limited and supported by the Government of Meghalaya.

The programme focuses on improving mental wellbeing, emotional strength, concentration, learning ability and overall personality development among school students.

The Foundation expressed gratitude to: Ranjit Rath, CMD, OIL India Limited, Arun Jyoti Baruah, CGM, OIL India Limited for their  support and encouragement towards the successful implementation of the project.

Special thanks were also conveyed to the mentors,Dr. Nand Kumar, Dr. Rajesh Sagarfrom All India Institute of Medical Sciences for their continuous guidance, expert mentorship and academic support to the project.

The press conference highlighted the research conducted under the MATE programme for 3000 students in 25 schools of 8 districts of Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo and shared the outcome observed among students in participating schools across Meghalaya.

The findings indicate improvement in students’ attention, confidence, emotional wellbeing and learning participation.

The MATE Team, led by Meeta Mishra, presented the progress report and future roadmap of the programme during the conference.

The Mental Health Foundation thanked the state government, participating schools, teachers, media representatives and all stakeholders for their cooperation and support in making the initiative successful.

The programme ended with an interactive discussion.
