Govt, KSU & Khasi Authors’ Society take up language recognition with Shah
ILP demand raised before union home minister

Shillong, June 4: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the Khasi Students Union and the Khasi Authors Society separately took up the Khasi language recognition issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“Requested the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution to preserve, promote, and recognise the linguistic and cultural identity of our indigenous communities”, the chief minister said in his memorandum submitted to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The president of Khasi Authors Society, DRL Nonglait said the stand of the union mome minister is that many languages are pending for approval.
Similarly, the KSU delegation met Shah and stressed the need of granting recognition to Khasi language.
Both the chief minister and the KSU yet again reiterated the need to implement ILP in the state.
The chief minister said as anti-influx measure, the Centre should explore ILP & MRSSA.
