Shillong, July 6: A couple was arrested from Lum Survey for drug trafficking.

In a statement, East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said that as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal infiltration and drug trafficking, an anti-infiltration drive by was conducted checking a total of 35 individuals on July 6. On seeing police personnel, several persons fled away. Of the 35 individuals who were checked, all produced documents of other states in support of their identity and residence which need to be verified from these states. During the course of checking, ANTF personnel apprehended 2 persons namely Rahim Ali (43) and Jaibanu (35)  both husband and wife who were found to be in possession of a contraband of total 116 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 14.42 grams, were recovered from their possession and seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

In this regard, a case vide Sadar P.S case no. 242(7)2026 u/s 21(b)/29 NDPS has been registered and investigated into.
