Shillong, July 16: The accused involved in alleged serial sexual exploitation cases, Jonathan L Pachau, ( 21), a student of St Edmund’s College here, surrendered before the police on Thursday (July 16)
According to East Khasi Hills SP, Vivek Syiem, he surrendered before the Officer -in -Charge of Laitumkhrah police station.
“The family members brought him leading to his surrender”, the SP said.
He has been arrested and will be produced in court.
The cases registered at Laitumkhrah police station are 100/2026 u/s 3/4/11/12 of POCSO Act and 94/2026 U/s 64(1) of BNS.
Sections 3, 4, 11, and 12 of the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012) deal with punishments for sexual assault and sexual harassment committed against minors.
The section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relates to rigorous imprisonment for a minimum of 10 years for rape. This can extend to imprisonment for life in addition to fine.
