CoMSO asks govt to stop Shree Cement project

Shillong, July 24: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organizations ( CoMSO) wanted   the state government to stop all processes related to the proposed Shree Cement project in East Jaintia Hills.

CoMSO Chairman and HYC President Roy Kupar Synrem told reporters on Friday that the affected landowners and farmers must first be heard and compensated before any further step is taken.

The group convened an emergency meeting after receiving complaints from residents of Elaka Nongkhlieh, where Shree Cement Limited plans to set up a cement plant and carry out limestone mining across about 217 hectares.
Synrem said the core grievance is not against development itself, but against the manner in which the project was cleared.
