Shillong, Aug 2: The advocate accused of molesting the intern has said he is fully cooperating with the police to complete the investigation.
In a statement issued here on August 1, the advocate AH Hazarika said that the police recorded the statement of his juniors who were present during the incident.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said that notice was issued to the advocate under 35(3) BNSS.
“Investigation is in progress. Will chargesheet before timeline”, he said.
Regarding the attack on the advocate, Syiem said that the four arrested HNYF
members are in judicial custody for 14 days.
The statement by Hazarika
“On 28-07-2026, two interns attended High Court hearings along with my junior, but not the complainant (intern). After finishing high court matters and district council cases, I returned to my chamber along with my juniors around 1.45 pm and around 2 pm, two interns along with the complainant(intern) came to chamber and started to study some files and I showed them to study SCC and to find out some Supreme Court rulings, during that time my four juniors were present in the chamber, one left for home as she has to take care of her baby and another went to high court for some work and two juniors remained in chamber and another junior was working in chamber since 11 am. While I went out for some work, all the juniors were in my chamber, and when I returned to the chamber, I found that all three interns had left, and my junior was doing some works and the junior girls had also left the chamber around 4.30 to 5.00 pm. Then me and one junior (Garo youth) took some files. As we were ready to leave around 10-12 persons forcefully entered the chamber along with the complainant(intern) and charged with force and pressurised me to tell that I touched the Intern but I denied, then I told them to ask the girl who was standing near his table She told the actual things, and one boy was recording in his mobile what was actually happening , and if the police personnel are able to recover or seize the video recording from his mobile phone, truth will come out, it will silence the critics. When I denied the allegation levelled against me, one of the youth punched me in the mouth and forcefully took me out of the chamber and pulled me in the most inhuman manner to Sadar Police Station, Shillong. I informed the matter to Bar Association members, and a few advocates came to the Police Station and helped me, then police took me to Civil Hospital, Shillong, where some tests were done besides administering
and medicines
Thereafter, I returned to the police station, some of my relatives also came to the police station, after the police released me on 29-07-2026, I went to NEIGRIHMS, X-Ray and tests were done as I sustained severe body injuries. I am fully cooperating with the police to complete the investigation”.
