Urban dept gives cash award for bus crew for saving passengers

Shillong, Aug 22: The Department of Urban Affairs has recognised the swift action and courage of an electric bus crew under the PM e-bus Sewa Scheme (“Ka Bos Jong Ngi”) by providing cash awards to them after they successfully protected passengers during a vandalism incident in Wahkdiat, Nongmengsong. The prompt reaction of the frontline staff highlights the state’s priority to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted public transport services across Meghalaya, a statement issued by the department said.
On August 19 around 5:51 pm, an electric bus bearing registration number ML05 AH 5045 was operating on its standard route from Air Force to IIM. While passing through the Wahkdait area, the vehicle encountered an ongoing rally where miscreants suddenly pelted stones, shattering the front windshield and placing everyone on board in immediate danger.
Despite the sudden threat, driver Fullmoonwell Lyngdoh and conductor Banmanbha Marwien maintained complete composure under pressure. Prioritizing the safety of the commuters above all else, the crew acted decisively to ensure that no passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
In recognition of their dedication and sense of duty, the Department of Urban Affairs formally felicitated both crew members with a cash award of Rs 10,000 each.
