Appointed medical officers don’t turn up in PHCs
Under-table payment under MHIS alleged by Rajabala MLA
Shillong, Aug 28: Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla admitted ‘huge shortage’ of specialists in the state and assured that the medical officers will be sent to three PHCs where there are no doctors.
In reply to joint question by MLAs Celestine Lyngdoh and Sengchim Sangma , Shylla said after recruitment, the medical doctors did not turn up in three PHCs.
“There is a huge shortage of specialists in the state though many times recruitments were initiated.
Answering supplementary questions, Shylla said that as per the National Family Health Survey-6 Cycle, the institutional delivery is 65.6%.
However, currently it is 81%, the minister said.

Phulbari MLA Mizanur Rahman Kazi raised a supplementary question and sought the intervention of the health minister regarding problem of payment under Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) by empanelled hospitals outside the state.
“Many private institutions in Assam are not honouring the MHIS. Patients even have to pay extra cash under table for reimbursement”, he added.
