Shillong, Sep 11: Welcoming swimmers of all ages and experience levels, True North Leisure Centre inaugurated its 1st Open Swimming Competition and Masters Meet at its feature-packed facility in Lapalang here on Friday.
This leisure centre was opened last year and hosted a school-level championship in 2025. This year, True North, which pioneered year-round swimming with its Mission Compound complex, has added this new championship to its calendar with dozens of swimmers from the 7 years and up taking part in different categories, both individual and relay, and swimming styles.

The two-day event will conclude on Saturday.
The competitiveness of the swimmers was excellent on the opening day, with enthusiastic schoolmates, parents, teachers and others adding to the festive atmosphere.
On Friday, the chief guest was Shri Dangsan Khyriem, Superintendent of Police (City). The guest of honour was one the state’s brilliant young sportspersons, footballer Phrangki Buam.
