Accident leaves 9, including BJP leader, dead

Anantapur, Feb 6 (UNI): A ghastly road accident left nine persons, including a senior BJP leader, dead when the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Budagavi village in Uravakonda mandal in the district on Sunday.

Police said the nine, including BJP state Kisan Mortha leader Koka Venkatappa, were killed instantly when the Innova car in which they were returning to their native village Lakkavaram after attending the marriage of Koka Venkatappa’s daughter collided with a lorry.

Six women and two boys were among the deceased.

Under the impact of the collision, the car turned to be an iron mangle and the police had a tough time to extricate the bodies from the car. All the deceased were close relatives of the BJP leader.

The bodies were shifted to the government hospital in Uravakonda for postmortem. Eight of the deceased were identified as Ashok (Bommanahal), Radha (Bommanahal) Saraswati (Bommanahal), Shivamma (Pillalapalli), Subhadra (Rayaladoddi), Swati (Lattavaram), Jagnavi (Lattavaram) Venkatappa (Nimbagallu). Another person is yet to be identified.

BJP state president Somu Veerraju expressed grief and shock over the death of Venkatappa. He conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved families.

TDP chief and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu also expressed grief and shock over the death of nine people in a ghastly road accident.
