ACHIK hunger strike on roster & winter capital enters sixth day

Shillong, July ,16: The hunger strike of Achik Conscious Holistic Integrated Krima (ACHIK) has entered the 6th day for the backlog of  reservation roster and setting up of winter capital in Tura.

The ACHIK general secretary Thomas M Marak said in a statement issued here that though there has been no response from the government coupled with lack of medical attention, the two leaders who are on hunger strike, have decided to go on until the Chief Minister and the local MLA of South Tura calls the organisation to discuss on the issue of backlog of vacancies and winter capital in Tura.

The organisation pointed out that the people of Garo Hills have been witnessing the two leaders, Laben Ch Marak, a former civil servant and a leader of ACHIK and the Co-chairman of Garo State Movement Committee (GSMC), Balkarin Ch Marak observing hunger strike on the issues which have been raised by the people of Garo Hills for a long time.

“The leader of GSMC Shri Balkarin Ch Marak today has shown a deteriorating health condition however, he stood the ground to bleed his all drops of his blood till Garos get justice and equity”, the ACHIK said.

Laben said the demand is not much as it is to have an audience with the MLA of South Tura Constituency who happens to be the Chief Minister on the issue and the dialogue should be there with the Garo population on the issue.

More volunteers and NGOs have came forward to join the hunger strike from Monday, the ACHIK said.

The leaders of both the organisations hope  that the government would soon lend the ear to the issues.

Earlier, the chief minister had said that the roster implementation is an ongoing process and added that the government is planning to set up mini secretariat in Tura, Jowai, Pynursla and other places.
