Shillong, June 19: Social activist Cherian Momin has sought the intervention of the government to repair the Resubelpara-Mendipathar road and the bridge affected in monsoon related incidents in North Garo Hills.
He petitioned the North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner in this regard.

Urgent request for immediate action on road and bridge conditions in Resu Headquarters, North Garo Hills
Dear Deputy Commissioner,
I am writing to bring to your urgent attention a critical issue affecting the residents of Resu Headquarters and surrounding areas in North Garo Hills. As a social activist deeply concerned about the welfare of our community, I feel compelled to highlight the severe difficulties our people are facing due to the current state of the lone road connecting Resu to Mendi and other villages.
Recently, an incident occurred on this road where a vehicle flipped while attempting to cross, thankfully resulting in no injuries to the passengers and the driver. This road has become increasingly dangerous and nearly impassable due to the heavy rainfall experienced over the past four days. This is not an isolated problem but an ongoing one that has significantly hindered the daily commute and transportation of essential goods.
Moreover, the community had placed its hopes on the completion of a bridge as an alternative route. Unfortunately, the construction of this bridge has been pending for the past 15-20 years with no signs of completion in the foreseeable future. The lack of progress on this crucial infrastructure project is deeply disappointing and frustrating for the residents.
Given the severity of the situation, I urge you to take immediate and decisive action to address the following:
1. Immediate repair and maintenance of the road connecting Resu to Mendi to ensure safe travel for all residents.
2. Expedite completion of the bridge to provide a reliable alternative route.
3. Implementation of safety measures by disaster management authorities to protect travelers during adverse weather conditions.
Your prompt attention to this matter will greatly alleviate the hardships faced by our community and restore their faith in the local administration’s ability to address their needs. I trust that you will treat this issue with the urgency it warrants and take the necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.
