Shillong,Oct 2:The ad hoc teachers in the state will get a new salary comprising basic pay and dearness pay.
The ad hoc teachers under the banner Federation of Adhoc School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) on Thursday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who assured the new pay structure with effect from April next year.
Later, the organisation called off its protest.
Vice President of FASTOM, Sanborn Jungai, said in addition, the ad hoc teachers will also get a Centralised Provident Fund (CPF) and Death-Cum- Retirement Gratuity (DCRG), ensuring financial security post retirement.
The government will contribute 8% to the CPF, while teachers will contribute 8% and this will provide benefits post-retirement.
The new pay structure will apply to all the ad hoc teachers from pre-primary to higher secondary schools, including science teachers, Hindi teachers and teachers serving in ad hoc morning and night schools.
The teachers will receive basic pay based on seniority, with different pay scales for teachers with 10, 20, and 30 years of service.
The government will take three months to prepare the basic pay, DA and CPF.
“This exercise will be carried out by December”, Jungai said.
On the demand for upgrading ad hoc schools to the deficit system, Jungai said the chief minister informed about the criteria under which the majority of the teachers will lose the benefits of the new pay if there is an upgradation.
FASTOM thanked the Chief Minister, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Commissioner Secretary Education Vijay Kumar Mantri and Director DSEL Banteilang Kharshandy for solving the problems faced by the teachers.
