Shillong, May 2: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the affiliated educational institutions under central universities like NEHU are exempted from the Common University Entrance Test( CUET).
Rymbui said this on Monday at a function organised on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Meghalaya Police Battalion, Mawiong.
However, he said if a student seeks admission directly from central universities like NEHU, CUET is mandatory.
He added CUET is a must for students who want to pursue five-year LLB like courses in NEHU and other central universities.
Earlier, it was announced by the Centre on March 26 regarding the mandatory CUET.
Later,several meetings were held by the government in this regard.
“The chief minister had a meeting with the union education minister in New Delhi this afternoon and the latter assured to exempt Meghalaya from CUET in state colleges and aided colleges”, he said.
