Shillong, Jan 9: The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on the status of Ildek Akong RCC bridge part of the Adokgre-Mangsang road project.
In a letter to the chief minister, the organisation said on behalf of AHAM Adokgre Regional Unit in particular and the people of Adokgre and its adjoining areas in general, it would like to draw the CM’s attention regarding the abandoned Ildek Akong RCC bridge as well as incomplete Adokgre-Mangsang road construction for years.
“The Ildek A’kong RCC Bridge is the main bridge of Adokgre-Mangsang road, the construction of which was started in 2019. However, it was abandoned without any further construction, therefore, the organisation filed an RTI application and as per the reply to the RTI queries, the organisation came to know the initial budget allocated to the Ildek A’kong RCC bridge was around Rs 12,29,89,000. However, the project was abandoned due to fund constraints by the state government”, it said.
AHAM condemned such kind of negligence by the government and added that it is unacceptable to the people of the region,
“As you may be aware, that the Adokgre-Mangsang Road project was one of the largest in the entire Garo Hills and its initial sanction was approximately Rs. 210 crore in in 2017, which was drastically reduced to Rs. 123 crore which is a cause of concern for the people of the region. Maximum time we feel detached because there is no direct linkage to any headquarters of Meghalaya. Therefore, the Adokgre-Mangsang road is crucial for the people of the region. The organisation therefore, demands the government to reconsider the budget reduction of the project and appeals the government to complete the project with the original budget as soon as possible”, AHAM said in its letter.
The organisation wanted the CM to take up the matter with the cabinet members so that Adokgre area as well as the state will progress.
