AICC rules out bringing back rebel MLAs

Shillong, June 3: The AICC leader in-charge Manish Chatrath has ruled out bringing back the rebel party MLAs to the party’s fold.
Chatrath told reporters that he is not aware of any move to bring back former Congress leader Mukul Sangma.
“I don’t think that my PCC president or any of the working presidents are aware of it. This is news which you are giving to us,” he said in response to questions.
Chatrath also said the five suspended Congress MLAs are not in touch with him. “If they have spoken to Pala that I don’t know but we have suspended them,” he said.
Election strategy
The AICC leader said the Congress has its own strategy as the elections are approaching in 7-8 months.
“There will be a few surprises. There are people who wanted to join us but as of now let us keep it as a surprise only,” he added.
To a question, Chatrath said it is not in the Congress DNA to demean anybody including the former leaders.
“We are not like that. Those who have gone, we wish them luck, we are not against anybody as that is their choice (to leave the party). Now we are organising ourselves, we have good people, we have good faces, we have good organisation as compared to any other party in the state,” he said.
The MPCC president Vincent Pala said it would be wrong on the part of the five suspended Congress MLAs to say that they were not given a chance.
“It is totally wrong as we have written a letter to them asking them to clarify or to answer, we have called for explanation but they did not reply and it was in the press that they said they are not going to reply and the question of Congress did not give them a chance does not arise,” he added.
