Shillong, July 1: AITC Meghalaya on Friday lodged a complaint with the state cyber police against a fake press note released in the name of party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who visited the state on June 29.
The fake press note had mentioned that the AITC leader approved the second list of candidates for South Shillong (Vicky Dey) and Mawlai (Patricia Mukhim).
Dey is on the run after a complaint was lodged against him for his comments of communal nature.
In a statement, the AITC condemned the spread of fake news by unknown miscreants. ‘”Such false propaganda aimed at maligning the image of the party will not be tolerated”, the party said.
Earlier, Meghalaya Editors and Publishers Association and Shillong Press Club had condemned naming Mukhim as a candidate of AITC .
