Ajit Pawar dies in plane crash
Shillong, Jan 28: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash in Baramati in Maharashtra on Wednesday.
Pawar, who was also the chief of NCP, was travelling to Baramati to address public meetings for the upcoming zilla parishad elections.
“Shri Ajit Pawar Ji was a leader of the people, having a strong grassroots level connect. He was widely respected as a hardworking personality at the forefront of serving the people of Maharashtra. His understanding of administrative matters and passion for empowering the poor and downtrodden were also noteworthy. His untimely demise is very shocking and saddening. Condolences to his family and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in his X handle.
Pawar’s name was embroiled in a Rs 70,000-crore irrigation scam, which he had denied time and again.
