All Faiths Forum to work towards drug-free Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 23: The general body meeting  of Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) held at Umshyrpi college asserted the need to spread awareness against drug abuse in the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday,  Noor Nongrum, general secretary, SAFF said all its members and units are committed to take pro-active steps in getting the expert, technical and financial support of the government under the Drug Rehabilitation, Elimination and Action Mission Project DREAM to facilitate and arrange different programmes in their institutions and also regularly reach out to their congregations. SAFF will guide and support the members in this effort and will be part of these programmes.

The SAFF conveyed its gratitude to the Minister, Social Welfare Department Paul Lyngdoh and his team for the recently held meeting with the faith leaders in the city. Expressing its confidence in the Social Welfare Department’s Project DREAM under Mission Director Francis G Kharshiing, members of SAFF and leaders from other faiths assured the government that they will support the effort to rid the state from the drugs menace and other evils that plague the society.

The meeting also confirmed the following as the new office bearers of SAFF

President: Bishop P Lyngdoh, Vice President: Naba Bhattacharjee, General Secretary: Noor Nongrum, Assistant General Secretary: Arup Barua, Treasurer: Jasbir Singh and  media assistant: Rev. EH Kharkongor.
