
Shillong, March 6: A resolution to have a winter capital in Tura, West Garo Hills moved by Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma (AITC) was withdrawn after Chief Minister Conrad Sangma agreed to the suggestion for an all party committee to examine the matter.
Moving the resolution, Mukul said the demand is the long cherished desire of the people of Garo Hills.
He also reminded the House about the arrest of protestors in Tura under the act which is used against terrorists.
In reply, the chief minister said, “The spirit of the resolution is appreciated but due to technical reasons as it was brought by the opposition, the resolution can’t be passed”.
Those who participated for and against the resolution include Deputy Speaker Timothy Shira, Jim M Marak,Celestine Lyngdoh, Renikton Lyngdoh, Rupa Marak, Brening Sangma, Limison Sangma and Subir Marak.
The chief minister recollected police preventing him from meeting protesting groups in Tura who were demanding the winter capital in the past..
Later, speaking to reporters, the chief minister said the all party committee was suggested by Rongjeng MLA and the modalities in this regard will be worked.
He also appreciated the gesture of withdrawal of motion by the Opposition Leader.
