All shops in Iewduh, Laitumkhrah closed due to protocol violation

Shillong, May 17: The East Khasi Hills district administration has ordered closure of all shops in Iewduh and Laitumkhrah market due to violation of health protocols.

In a statement issued on Monday, the district administration said reports have been received from the Incident Commanders of both Iewduh and Laitumkhrah that the people are not following the protocols, despite regulation on opening of shops, and strict instructions that people should move out only for essential purposes.

“It was noticed that many are not complying to the protocols of the Health Department, and that many shops were seen to be crowded, and there are still some persons who are not wearing masks or observing physical distancing with due diligence, and it was also observed that people are moving from one locality to another despite restrictions, and vehicles without passes are plying about, and whereas this laxity is a cause of concern in view of the ongoing fast spread of Covid-19”, the DC said.

The district administration said that all shops and stalls at Iewduh will remain closed until further orders.

The order also said all shops in Laitumkhrah,including market area and the stretch of street vendors along the whole stretch of Laitumkhrah main road will remain closed.

The DC said the Superintendent of police & incident commanders  will ensure compliance to the order, and meticulously plan regulated opening in consultation with the market committees so that there is discipline.
