Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair arrested
New Delhi, June 27: Delhi Police have arrested Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of a particular community, police said on Monday.
The police registered a case after getting a complaint from a Twitter handle, wherein it was alleged that Zubair had posted a questionable image with the purpose to deliberately insult the god of a particular religion.
“He was evasive on the questions and neither provided the necessary technical equipment for the purpose of the investigation nor cooperated in the probe… Accordingly, he has been arrested and is being produced before the court for seeking police custody remand,” the police said.
“Every person exposing BJP’s hate, bigotry and lies is a threat to them. Arresting one voice of truth will only give rise to a thousand more. Truth always triumphs over tyranny,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.
“Altnews and Md. Zubair have been in the forefront of exposing the bogus claims of the Vishguru, who has struck back with a vengeance characteristic of him. Delhi Police, reporting to the Union Home Minister, has long lost any pretensions of professionalism and independence,” Congress’ media department head Jairam Ramesh said.
AIMIM leader Asauddin Owaisi slammed Delhi Police for violating due processes.
