Annual eucharistic procession held

Shillong, Nov 12:The annual eucharistic procession of the catholic Archdiocese of Shillong was held on Sunday in the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah here

The eucharistic procession is the manifestation of faith in the presence of Jesus in Holy Eucharist.

The eucharist is the crown and summit of  Catholic worship. There is no other worship in the catholic church greater than the eucharist.

Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio (Ambassador) to India and Nepal, who is the representative of the Pope Francis was the chief celebrant at the function.

With enthusiasm, he attended the eucharistic procession in the mother Church of North East India.

Along with him,Victor Lyngdoh, the Archbishop of Shillong, Wilbert Marwein, Bishop of Nongstoin, Ferdinand Dkhar, Bishop of Jowai, Joachim Walder, Auxiliary Bishop of Aizawl,  Prestone Tynsong, Deputy Chief Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Local MLA and Minister, cabinet ministers, MLAs, MDCs, the DC of East Khasi Hills, priests, religious, lay leaders and faithful from Meghalaya and from the North East attended the programme.

The ceremony started with the Holy Mass. Archbishop of Shillong Victor Lyngdoh as the host of the Church welcomed the chief celebrant, other co-celebrants, priests, religious, invitees and the faithful to the Holy Mass.

In his homily, the apostolic nuncio said he appreciates the faith of the people. He stressed the need to have strong faith in the holy eucharist which is the summit of the Catholic faith. He exhorted the faithful to be strong in the faith and to live the daily life in a manner worthy to the teaching of Jesus Christ. The gist of the homily was given by Bishop Wilbert Marwein in Khasi.

In the afternoon, the Apostolic nuncio addressed the gathering about firm faith in Jesus Christ. Live the life as disciples and followers of Jesus, he said.

Bishop Joachim Walder and Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar addressed the gathering and asked the faithful to find God in life through prayer and good deeds.

The day concluded with the blessings from Apostolic Nuncio and gratitude was expressed by Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh.
