Ardent slams CM for political appointments

Shillong, April 17: Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit has criticised Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for making too many political appointments.
The VPP leader was referring to government’s decision to appoint consultants, chairmen, co-chairmen, chief advisor and advisors.
“If the chief minister requires appointing a chief advisor, then he is not fit to be the chief minister of the state,” Basaiawmoit said at a public meeting here on Monday.
“It is a shame that people who lost the elections are appointed as chief advisors to the chief minister. What is the need? Is it not a waste of public money?” he asked.
Basaiawmoit pointed out that political appointments are depriving the youth of employment opportunities.
He also warned the state of financial crisis due to such action.
Ryngain incident
Commenting on the Ryngain road accident that killed two persons , Basaiawmoit said it appears that the government is shielding those involved in illegal stone quarrying while it is blaming the road construction company.
Special committee for roster system
Basaiawmoit said the government should form a special committee and involve leaders from both the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo communities to discuss on roster system and reservation policy.
He said the fight of the party is against the government and not against any particular community.
