Shillong, Aug 5: The army is on stand by at Nongtalang, West Jaintia Hills to prevent any spill-over effects of turmoil in Bangladesh leading to the resignation of the country’s Prime Minister.

Local MLA Lahkmen Rymbui said on Monday that the presence of the army at Nongtalang was part of the security initiative to ensure peace along the border.
The state government has already declared 12-hour night curfew along the border areas of the state. The BSF has also increased its presence and the state police are on alert.
The local traders in Dawki will not carry out any export on Tuesday due to the prevailing situation.
An exporter from Dawki said the protesters were seen on the Bangladesh side twice but dispersed later.
