Assam civic polls victory shows people’s faith in us: PM
New Delhi, Mar 9 (UNI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam for reposing faith on BJP as the saffron party swept the Municipal elections in Assam.
“Gratitude to the people of Assam for blessing BJP and our allies in the recently concluded municipal elections. This shows their faith in our party’s development agenda,” the PM said in a tweet.
He also applauded the BJP workers for their efforts and service among the people. Earlier, BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda in a tweet wrote, “BJP’s massive victory in the municipal elections of Assam shows that the public’s confidence in PM Narendra Modi ji’s ‘Act East’ policy has been welcomed by the people of Assam. I congratulate and thank the people of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and its allies.”
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), the ruling BJP is leading in 548 of 977 wards, while the Congress is ahead in just 61 and others in 125 wards. It may be noted that out of 977 wards, 57 had already been declared uncontested and elections were held for 920 wards.
Elated over the party’s stupendous performance, Union Home Minister and party’s former national president Amit Shah in a tweet wrote, “The landslide victory in Assam Municipal elections reflects people’s unwavering trust in PM Narendra Modi led BJP’s politics of development. Grateful to the people of Assam for their continued support. Congratulations to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bhabesh Kalita, Assam BJP and our ally (Asom Gana Parishad).”
