
Shillong, Aug 30: An Assam police man was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Block-II area bordering Ri Bhoi.
In a statement issued on Saturday, senior superintendent of police Ri Bhoi Vivekanand Singh Rathore said a sexual assault case was reported on August 27 from a village under Block-II within the jurisdiction of Mawlasnai Out Post, in which an Assam police personnel allegedly sexually assaulted a girl child and was caught by the villagers, but managed to run away.
In this regard, a case was registered vide Nongpoh Women PS Case No. 45(08)2025 u/s 3(a)/4/5(a)(iv)(m)/6/18 POCSO Act and investigation was on, he said.
“A team was sent to Lumding, Assam yesterday to arrest the accused person, namely LNK/121 Projen Langthasa of 18th APBN, Lumding and the accused person was arrested today afternoon from Lumding, Assam and brought to Nongpoh this evening”, the police officer said.
Investigation is in full swing, and the chargesheet will be submitted soon, he said.
“We will take all necessary actions to complete the trial at the earliest and ensure justice for the victim/survivor. Moreover, proceedings will be initiated without any delay to provide compensation as per law to the victim by the state government. We thank all the officers of the Government of Meghalaya as well as Assam for prompt assistance in the matter”, said the official
