Assam institutes judicial probe, state also for investigation by a central agency

Neighbouring state announces ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each

Shillong, Nov 22: Assam government has instituted a judicial inquiry by a retired judge of High Court into the Mukroh incident.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Assam government said an ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh each will be provided to the relatives of the six victims.

“The inquiry commission has been mandated to inquire into the circumstances leading to the firing incident. The inquiry commission will submit its report within three months”, the statement said.

The government said all personnel of police force and forest force, who were involved in the incident, will be sent to their respective reserves.

The Assam government also favoured a probe by a central agency.
