Shillong, June 14: The head of Assam regional committee on disputed Block I border area and cabinet minister, Pijush Hazarika (left in picture) blamed the miscreants for creating problem in the border.
The first joint border committee meeting was held in the city on Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Minister and chairman of West Jaintia Hills regional committee Sniawbhalang Dhar chaired the meeting in the presence of Hazarika.
When asked about frequent disturbance in the border especially in Khanduli area, Hazarika termed as the handiwork of the miscreants.
To a question whether the miscreants are from Assam, he said, “Miscreants are miscreants we can’t say they are from Assam or Meghalaya but we can say they don’t belong to us and how will you identify sitting here miscreants but Assam people have love to the people of Meghalaya and I believe that Meghalaya people also have love to the people of Assam”.
The minister said he is concerned over the over the recent skirmishes at Khanduli.
Clashes were reported recently between the Karbi and Pnar people at Khanduli area in West Jaintia Hills District.
“We are very friendly and we don’t have problems with Meghalaya people. We have a very good relationship with Meghalaya and we have high regards to the people of Meghalaya as well as people of other North Eastern part of the country”, Hazarika said.
Sniawbhalang said the first meeting discussed how to go about regarding the areas under Block I so that there is a permanent solution.
The next meeting of the regional commitees will be held next month.
The regional committees examined the areas of difference in Block I (Psiar-Khanduli) in West Jaintia Hills District with West Karbi Anglong District.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of West Jaintia Hills District and West Karbi Anglong District, members of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council and Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council and also village headmen from both districts of Meghalaya and Assam.
The committees have decided to submit the report to state governments by August.
Sniawbhalang hinted that by July, the commitees may carry out the visit to the disputed areas.
To a question on whether they will resort to give and take policy , Sniawbhalang said,” We are yet to decide on the give and take policy, Let us go to the field, we will listen to the people and everything will be solved amicably from both the states.”
