Assam Rifles jawan writes to DGAR for permission to continue social service

Shillong, Feb 5: Sakti Pada Paul, a rifleman in the 12 Assam Rifles, has been doing social work for a few years now, serving his country beyond the forces.

Paul, who is posted in Shillong, has been taking various community welfare initiatives, such as helping the elderly who have been abandoned by families, orphaned children and destitutes.

“These activities have become an integral part of my mission — to extend the spirit of national service beyond the uniform, into compassion and care for humanity,” Paul recently wrote to the Directorate General Assam Rifles (DGAR) as he sought permission to continue with the humanitarian work alongside his official duties.

From janta kitchen (people’s kitchen) to distributing clothes among the poor, Paul and his wife, along with a few friends, have been active on this front.

Writing to the DGAR, Paul said, “I strongly believe that true service to the Nation lies not only in defending its borders but also in uplifting those who have been left behind. If granted this opportunity, I assure you that I will continue to uphold the values of duty, discipline, and humanity that define the noble spirit of our Armed Forces.”
